Foods high in fat content, like cheese, and carbohydrates will retard the absorption of alcohol. Having food in the stomach also decreases stomach irritation, in turn reducing the likelihood that a drinker will vomit. </p>
<p>Before drinking alcohol, drink a glass of water. This ensures the body is hydrated before the diuretic effect takes hold.</p>
<p>Also, drink a glass of water after every alcoholic beverage. In addition to helping keep a drinker hydrated, this will give the body more time to process the alcohol, dilute the toxins and reduce irritation of the stomach. A sports drink will also replenish electrolytes, salts and sugars lost in the urine.</p>
<p>Wine has a higher percentage of alcohol (7 to 15 percent) than beer (4 to 6 percent), but it is usually not carbonated. White wine is safer than red or blush because it has fewer congeners.</p>

<p>Water is a main source of energy for the body.  Waiting until you get thirsty is a mistake, because thirst is a sign your energy is becoming depleted.  No one lets their car&#8217;s gas tank get completely empty before they fill it, yet many people allow this to happen to their bodies by waiting to drink water. Don&#8217;t let your body stall on the side of the road!  Drink water regularly to keep your body hydrated, and your energy levels at their peak.</p>
<p>Most people don&#8217;t consume enough water because they wait until they are thirsty. This is a philosophy perpetuated by the National Academy of Sciences, among others. This theory has been passed down for over 100 years, because during a time when research in dehydration and thirst was being studied by the French, American physiologist Walter Bradford Cannon dismissed this research, claiming through rather gruesome experiments on dogs, that thirst was only a the condition of having a dry mouth.</p>
<p>By waiting until our mouths are dry, we are thirsty.  This signal is used when the body fluids are depleted. Dehydration is a serious problem, especially for the elderly. After age 20, our bodies become less and less aware of the sensation of thirst, and become continuously dehydrated. By age 70, the elderly can become obviously thirst and totally dehydrated, and be unaware that this condition greatly affects their health. A scientific experiment was conducted where a group of elderly people were asked not to consume any water for a 24 hour period. The result? When water was made available, many people still did not feel thirsty.  Water was left for them, and they would not consume the water.  However when young people participated in the same experiment, they quickly corrected the thirst problem and immediately drank the water provided for them.</p>
<p>The easy solution to the dehydration problem, is to drink water regularly throughout the day. The average person drinks about two quarts of water a day, but they need four quarts. Two quarts are consumed through the water content in food. The body needs four quarts of water to produce a healthy two quart flow of urine. This maintains good kidney function and health. If urine is colorless, you are properly hydrated. When it becomes yellow, or even orange, the body is dehydrated and a part of the body is suffering for it. Organs that become dehydrated cease to function properly. Waiting to drink water until you are thirsty can lead to health complications, even premature death.</p>

And even the mildest case of dehydration can cause fatigue, dizziness, headaches and muscle weakness. No wonder health experts are constantly telling us to drink more water.</p>
<p>Crucial to the body&#8217;s cleansing processes, water lessens the burden on the organs involved in detoxification-mainly the liver and kidneys-by flushing out toxins and waste products. Drinking plenty of water each day also helps prevent constipation by moving food through the digestive tract. A necessary lubricant, it helps to ease elimination and promote regular bowel movements.</p>
<p>As part of a healthy weight loss program, water can help shed the pounds by increasing your metabolism. While the science behind this concept is the subject of ongoing research, studies have shown that drinking more water can significantly boost your metabolic rate and thus burn even more calories. Try to drink only pure water and avoid caffeinated beverages such as coffee and tea, as well as sugary juices and soft drinks. If you need a splash of flavor in your water, add a spritz of fresh lemon or lime juice. Non-caffeinated herbal teas are also a delicious way to boost your water intake, and many fruits and vegetables contain high amounts of water.</p>
<p>Lifestyle differences such as frequent exercise, illness, environmental conditions (dry, hot, humid, high altitude, etc.), as well as pregnancy and breastfeeding will likely increase the amount of water your body needs, so it is important to be mindful of changes in your daily routine.</p>

<p>Just like the dust and crud that accumulates in your house calls for a yearly house-cleaning &#8211; &#8220;toxins&#8221;, extra weight and God knows what accumulate in your body.</p>
<p>We all need to do a regular house-cleaning &#8211; and that means allowing your body a chance to heal itself, release the extra weight, release its toxins, and get a fresh new start.</p>
<p>Your body has an amazing self-healing mechanism built right in it, but in order to let it work, you have to give it the rest it needs.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why fasting has been a tradition part of many world&#8217;s religions, and almost every alternative health practice recommends some kind of fasting or &#8220;detox diet&#8221;.</p>
<p>What Is a Detox Diet?</p>
<p>A &#8220;detox diet&#8221; has nothing to do with going to a rehab clinic for drug abuse. The word &#8220;detox&#8221; has been used in naturopathic circles in the sense of &#8220;removing toxins.&#8221; A detox diet allows your body to clean itself of accumulated toxins, stress, and helps it release extra fat and weight.</p>
<p>A detox diet is a restricted diet that you follow, often combined with an exercise program, for a few days or a few weeks (or even longer). It&#8217;s sort of like fasting, but it&#8217;s easier to do and you can do it at home when you need it.</p>
<p>Signs You Need to Detox</p>
<p>You should be able to know yourself when you need to go on a detox diet. If you&#8217;re looking at yourself in the mirror and don&#8217;t like what you see, you don&#8217;t like the extra weight you&#8217;ve been carrying around&#8230; then a detox diet can help you get back on track with a healthy diet and release the extra fat..</p>
<p>If you feel you don&#8217;t have the energy you once had, or you&#8217;re starting to feel a little depressed&#8230; a detox diet can help you regain that energy and bring a new level of joy to your life.</p>
<p>If you experience aches and pains, or headaches, and can&#8217;t keep up with the stress of modern life, then it&#8217;s very likely that a detox diet can help you feel young again, and give you the feeling that &#8220;nothing can stop you&#8221;.</p>
<p>From having helped thousands of people go through all sorts of detox diets, I know that the rejuvenation it brings and the sense of accomplishment, on top of all the health results, is well worth the discipline it requires to do it.</p>
<p>Example of a Detox Diet</p>
<p>There&#8217;s all sorts of detox diets you can choose from. One of my all-time favorites is the Apple Diet. This involves eating only apples for breakfast, lunch and dinner, for one or several days.</p>
<p>The good thing about apples is that they are easy to eat, they are low in sugar, and they contain a fiber that literally acts as a &#8220;broom&#8221; in your intestines.</p>
<p>When you go on an Apple Diet, all you have to do is purchase the best organic apples you can find, and eat as many as you&#8217;d like 3 or 4 times a day.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a few tips to make this work:</p>
<p>- If you&#8217;ve never done this before, only plan to go for the Apple Diet for a maximum of 3-4 days.</p>
<p>- Peel your apples beforehand. Even though the peel contains essential nutrients, it&#8217;s also impossible to digest in most cases. Since you&#8217;re going to be eating lots of apple, you don&#8217;t want to stress your digestion with too much fiber.</p>
<p>- Don&#8217;t drink apple juice &#8211; even if it&#8217;s freshly-pressed. That would be too much sugar, even if it&#8217;s natural. You want the natural sugar along with all of the vitamins, minerals and fiber in the *whole* apple.</p>
<p>- Also drink water, about one liter a day, to help eliminate the toxins.</p>
<p>- Instead of eating apples all day long, have 3-4 meals a day with 1-2 pounds of apples.</p>
<p>I recommend the Apple Diet over any other type of &#8220;mono-cleanse&#8221;, because the apple is the King of Fruits!</p>
<p>Other popular cleanses that I don&#8217;t recommend include the Orange Juice Fast, the Lemon Cleanse, or the Grapefruit Diet. The problem with those detox diets is that the level of acidity from these citrus fruits is too high. It can cause many problems with your gums and overall health, and many unnecessary discomforts.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why low-acidity apples are a good choice to do a raw food detox diet.</p>
<p>Get Support and Motivation</p>
<p>Although the concept of a detox diet is simple, most people have a hard time implementing it because of lack of motivation.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not complicated to eat only apples for 3 days, but it&#8217;s not easy either. On the first day, you&#8217;ll be craving your normal fare. By the second day, you&#8217;ll be dreaming about food. But if you stick around, after a few days, you&#8217;ll be experiencing the incredible &#8220;high&#8221;, energy and lightness of beings that fasters experience &#8211; and the results will show.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll start to release weight, your hunger for natural foods will come back, you&#8217;ll have energy to start an exercise program, you&#8217;ll feel better than ever&#8230; and when you&#8217;re ready to introduce other foods into your diet, you&#8217;ll be more likely to make the right choices.</p>
<p>But to get to that point, make sure you get enough support and motivation. Find someone who can help you do a detox diet with you, and get as much information and support as you can to succeed on your cleanse.</p>
<p>Learn to use the power of DETOX in your life&#8230; and you&#8217;ll start to regain the health and energy that is your birthright.</p>

<p>What are the best things to drink when on a diet?</p>
<p>Here we will look at the best drinks to aid weight loss and the ones that can slow down, or make your diet ineffective.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s look at drink and dieting and start with the best drink of all first.</p>
<p>1. Water</p>
<p>Water pure and simple is the single best drink for losing weight and is the most important catalyist for weight loss in ANY diet.</p>
<p>A dieter should drink at least eight glasses of water.</p>
<p>Water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off.</p>
<p>It acts as a natural appetite suppressant by keeping your stomach full and fending off dehydration which can lead to hunger pangs.</p>
<p>Many times when you feel &#8220;hunger signals&#8221;, they are actually &#8220;thirst signals&#8221;, so before eating, drink a glass of water instead.</p>
<p>Most importantly of all, water helps your body metabolizes stored fat by helping the kidneys flush out waste.</p>
<p>When you don&#8217;t drink enough water the liver which works to provide stored fat for energy also takes on the task of helping out the kidneys and thus becomes less effective at metabolizing fat.</p>
<p>Drinking eight glasses of ice cold water a day burns about 62 calories because your body has to work to raise that waters temperature to body temperature &#8211; That amounts to about 430 calories per week.</p>
<p>2. Alcohol and soda</p>
<p>When dieting, don&#8217;t drink to much alcohol or sodas that are high in sugar. They contain plenty of calories and also make you feel hungry. So moderation is the order of the day.</p>
<p>Not all alcoholic drinks contain the same ingredients and have different affects on a diet.</p>
<p>Pure spirits are one of the best type of drinks to consume while on a diet because they contain approx 100 calories and very little in way of carbohydrates.</p>
<p>Examples would be shots of vodka, rum, Bacardi, or gin &#8211; With no mixer added.</p>
<p>If mixing these drinks when on a diet make sure you use diet tonic and diet cola&#8217;s etc</p>
<p>Wine is ok in moderation and many people like a glass with their meal a typical glass of red or white is both low in carbohydrates and calories.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t go for sweet wines though stay with dry as they are not so fattening.</p>
<p>Beer is full of calories and really when dieting drink in moderation. Keep in mind that a pint of beer can contain a whopping 300 calories.</p>
<p>3. Coffee &#38; Tea</p>
<p>Coffee is fat-free, but drinking it can be detrimental to diets why? &#8211; Because even though coffee in itself is fat-free, it is what can be added that hurts your diet.</p>
<p>Low and fat free milk is fine, but avoid cream. Finally, go easy on the sugar, if you have a sweet tooth.</p>
<p>All you have to do is remember that without added sugar or cream, coffee does not contain any calories.</p>
<p>Plain tea does not have any calories before you add your sweeteners and milk.</p>

<p>Is too much coffee draining your energy?</p>
<p>Do you need four to six cups of coffee each day just to stay awake? Is America on a collision course with low energy levels just as it is with obesity?</p>
<p>The lack of energy can be traced to poor diet, stress, food allergies, liver problems, too much sugar, too much caffeine and adrenal exhaustion. The adrenal glands are the big energy regulators in the body. They are just like a bank. If you make a withdrawal, you need to recharge or make deposits before you go to the bank again.  That is where coffee begins to become an energy depleter and not an energy builder.  Caffeine forces your adrenals to secrete energy hormones even when your body does not have much to offer. Over the years it takes more and more coffee to get the same result. (Do you think Starbucks knows about this?) The adrenals are responsible for releasing more than 150 hormones into your body including adrenalin, testosterone and cortisol. Doctors know that constant high levels of cortisol shrink the part of the brain that is responsible for memory. Cortisol also interferes with the immune system making you less able to fight off infections.  If you are drinking three or more cups of coffee a day your adrenals are depleted. Your body is in a constant state of &#8220;fight or flight.&#8221;  Coffee, the very substance you thought was giving you that little kick is actually, in the long run depleting your energy levels to almost zero. Over stimulating the adrenals leads to fatigue, insomnia, weight gain, depression and a weakened immune system.  Caffeine has been shown to stay in people&#8217;s systems for as long as eight and up to thirty hours. Like other herbs and drugs it affects each person in a different manner.</p>
<p>Caffeine also forces the liver to release more glucose into the blood stream. This produces a blood sugar high that is often followed by a severe drop in blood sugar. (The need for a nap or another cup of coffee!) Extra coffee also puts added stress on your kidneys.</p>
<p>So what is wrong with your coffee habit if it lures you out of bed every morning?  The reason you may be craving that coffee every morning is that you are addicted to its effects. Coffee or caffeine withdrawal headaches can be terrible. They often come with the overwhelming feeling of fatigue as your body tries to recuperate from its former caffeine driven pace. If you skip your morning coffee you get a terrible headache.  Caffeine acts as a vasoconstrictor in the brain.  That means it actually constricts blood vessels in the brain and decreases circulation! When caffeine is not present the sudden increased circulation causes headaches.</p>
<p>What is the answer if you are someone like me who loves the aroma of dark coffee and just can&#8217;t say no?  The good news is that you can wean yourself down from the several cups a day and eventually off coffee completely if you do it slowly over a two to three week period. You can also rebuild your adrenal glands with herbs and help from organic whole foods. I like to recommend superfood blends that are very dense in nutrients and minerals. Your diet should be a building diet and avoid or cut back on stimulants, sugar, sodium and alcohol. Foods rich in Potassium should be added to the diet  This will help the adrenals by correcting the potassium/sodium balance in the body.  You can also help rebuild the adrenals by adding several herbs to your diet. Some of the best adrenal builders are cayenne, licorice, ginseng, ginger and hawthorn.  It is also a good idea to drink plenty of water and evaluate your sleep to make sure you are getting restful sleep and waking up energized. One final point on energy. One reason we as a society may feel we need more stimulants is because the main energy vitamin, B-12, is stored in the liver.  As you know, the liver is bombarded with all types of toxins and pollutants on a daily basis and struggles to perform at a high level.  Doing a regular cleansing routine will help keep the liver in good shape and hopefully help you store more B-12 for your energy needs.</p>
